Everged Focus Level 2: Quietly Doing Everything Right at UA's Mobility and Power Center

A newer name in the EVSE market, Everged has installed a set of Level 2 chargers at the Alabama Mobility and Power Center on the University of Alabama campus that are worth paying attention to — not for the hardware specs alone, but for something simpler: they just work.

ChargeSouth Verdict: Consistent, reliable Level 2 charging in one of Alabama's best EV showcase facilities. The 55-inch display screens are a standout feature, but the real story is simpler — these chargers have never once been down on any of my visits. That matters more than any spec sheet.
Background

A New Name, a Strong First Impression

I'll be honest — Everged wasn't a brand I knew well before visiting the Alabama Mobility and Power Center. But after stopping there multiple times over the past several months, I've come away genuinely impressed. Not in a flashy way, but in the way that matters most for EV charging infrastructure: reliability.

The Alabama Mobility and Power Center at the University of Alabama is one of the more thoughtfully built EV education and demonstration facilities in the state. It's a space that's clearly trying to show people what EV infrastructure done right looks like, and the Everged Focus chargers installed there are a good fit for that mission.

"Every visit, every port, working. That sounds like a low bar — but anyone who drives an EV regularly knows it isn't always."

The Hardware

The Focus units have a clean, all-black design that works well in the facility. They're compact without feeling flimsy, and the Everged branding is visible without being obnoxious. They look like something someone put real thought into, which isn't always the case with Level 2 hardware.

The feature that immediately sets these apart is the 55-inch display screen mounted above each unit. These aren't the little status indicators you see on most Level 2 chargers — they're full-size digital displays, bright enough to be clearly legible under the facility's lighting. At a university mobility center where education is part of the mission, that kind of screen real estate makes sense. Campus communications, EV content, sponsor messaging, real-time session status — there's a lot you can do with it. On every visit the screens were running and looking sharp.

Reliability

I can't stress this enough: I have never arrived at this location and found a charger down. Not once. For anyone who has pulled into a charging site after a long drive and found half the units throwing fault codes, you know exactly how much that matters.

Session initiation is straightforward too. The interface doesn't require you to figure anything out — whether you're a daily EV driver or someone brand new to the whole thing, you're not going to be standing in the parking lot confused. Plug in, authenticate, charge. Done.

The Location

The Alabama Mobility and Power Center is a genuinely impressive facility, and it's worth a visit even if you don't particularly need a charge. It's clean, well-organized, and clearly built with intention. For ChargeSouth members passing through Tuscaloosa, this is a stop I'd actively recommend building into your route.

The Everged units are well-positioned inside the facility — covered, accessible, and well-spaced. It's the kind of thoughtful deployment that makes you feel good about where EV infrastructure in Alabama is heading.

The Bottom Line

Simple, reliable, and worth the stop.

If you're looking for a reliable Level 2 charge stop in Tuscaloosa, the Alabama Mobility and Power Center should be at the top of your list. The Everged Focus chargers have earned that recommendation the old-fashioned way — by working every single time I've shown up.

The 55-inch screens set them apart visually, the hardware is well-built, and the facility is one of the better EV environments in the state. But the real story is just that these things work. Consistently. For a ChargeSouth recommendation, that's what it comes down to.
